Greetings

The Bodhi Tree Project collects and shares diverse forms of knowledge about Bodhi trees, Ficus religiosa.  We visit big sacred trees around the world, and grow little trees in our lab at Oregon State University.  We sequence and analyze Bodhi tree DNA.  We grow trees in the lab, which inspire student Bodhi tree art.  This site shares information and resources about Bodhi trees and the project.  Our broader mission aims to advance the intersection of Buddhist and scientific teachings and practices.

Sri Maha Bodhi temple complex in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.  The tree supported by golden beams, Sri Maha Bodhi, is a direct descendant of the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha sat during his enlightenment experience.  See 2017 Sri Lanka Stories for more details.  Photo: Amila Liyanage
